If you are looking for contemporary couture, both classic and chic, that brings out the complete and independent woman in you, fashion entrepreneur Rebecca Dewan should be your go-to person. Her eponymous label ventured into mainstream designing in the August of 2016 and has taken the celebrity fashion industry by storm in this short span. This well-priced haute couture label with its flagship store in Bandra West, Mumbai, has already dressed and styled the likes of Sushmita Sen, Soha Ali Khan, Tanisha Mukherji, Zareen Khan, Daisy Shah, Sunidhi Chauhan, Neha Dhupia, Urvashi Rautela, Ellie Evram, Amyra Dastur and Iulia Vantur.
Born and raised in London, Rebecca is a self-taught designer who draws inspiration for her collections from her global escapades, with her innings in luxury being an extension of her innate passion for fashion. For Rebecca, the quality of her garments is one of the most important facets. Extremely experimental with her designs, Dewan believes in promoting regional handicrafts and workmanship from parts of India that are steeped in tradition and cultural richness. Towns such as Benares and Lucknow and the appliqué and patchwork from states such as Gujarat find representation in her collections. Rebecca effortlessly displays a contemporary edge to high-end ethnic couture, and is constantly reinventing and redefining the fashion boundaries through her designs. Her fiercely urbane extravagant style is a result of her fusion of unconventional fabrics, silhouettes, colours and embellishments.
With a passion to not play by the rule book, couturier Rebecca Dewan ensures her collection reflects the many moods of a modern woman. She believes that even a simple ensemble embellished with the right amount of luxury can give the wearer that much-desired edge over others. Quips Rebecca, ‘Life is a drama, so are my pieces, which are totally avant-garde – which depict lifelike complexities, bright embellishments, wicked drapes and sultry silhouettes. Dreamlike bridal lehengas are designed to create timeless memories. I aim to decrease the superficial and create the ‘wow factor’ which is a powerful, visceral reaction to something extraordinary. Aim for wow, and everything else will fall into place.’
