Summer Delights to Keep You Cool as a Cat!
Kuremal Mohan Lal Kulfi Wale in Kucha Pati Ram of Sitaram Bazaar in Old Delhi is the BIG Daddy of all that is available in the labyrinthine lanes of Dilli6. An institution of sorts in the most humble surroundings, they offer as many as 50 plus variants which are classified under rabri kulfi cream, stuffed kulfi and kulfi julpeps.
The kulfis here are made from many a local fruit, think of a fruit and they probably would have a variant of that… Imli, Cream, Falsa, Jamun, Mango, Paan, Anar, Aam Panna and more. There are even flavours which are totally unheard of, like Falsa. The best thing about shop is that for years they have been able to maintain the same texture and taste. Some of them come sprinkled with a chaat masala which heightens their taste!
The Rabri Kulfi Cream section has regular creamy options that most people know and love while the Stuffed Kulfis has your favourite fruit (mango is the most popular!) stuffed with the pulp of the same fruit mixed with some dry fruits. Kulfi julpeps are sorbet-like with more fruit pulp. All kulfis served here are sans any artificial flavouring.
The Kuremal family has been making kulfi since 1908 when Pandit Kuremal left his hometown in Haryana, all at the tender age of 8, to seek fame and make it big in the city. He learned to make kulfi from an old halwai and soon set out on his own. In 1975, his son, Mahavir Prasad moved the business to its current location. Till date, no food walk or trip to Old Delhi is complete without a visit to them.
Prices range from Rs40–200 per kulfi, depending on the ingredient.
